On Friday, we will have a quiz on Unit 3  - Photography, all three chapters, pages 34-48. It will include questions on the readings and the vocabulary.

You are allowed one page of hand written notes. Complete pages 45-47 to help you prepare. Check the answers with a classmate before class!

Also please continue to read The Five People You Meet in Heaven  up to page 44. The questions are due Monday.

Monday Homework

Read pages 34-36. Use the clues below to help you guess the vocabulary on page 34.

3. Read page 23-24,  "Mount Wilson: A Mountain with a View" List five important facts that your read about to prepare for the reading check tomorrow. Answer the questions on page 25.

Weekend Homework

• Read The Five People You Meet in Heaven pages 1-22. If you don't have the novel yet, you can read it online Click here for the e-reader version, but please note that the page numbers are different. On the online version, read up to page 14, the end of the chapter titled "The Journey". 
• Answer the questions on the photocopy you were given in class.
• Do an internet search and find an article about Martin Luther King Jr. To find an easier article type the words "ESL student" or "for kids" If you find only books or advertisements, add the word "biography" to your search. 
• Take notes on the article and include 5 basic facts about Martin Luther King Jr's life: date of birth and death, career, famous protests or boycotts, accomplishments (great things he did) and how he died.
• Fill in the prefix and root worksheet with words you know. If you don't know a word, ask a friend or skip to the next word. Don't spend hours looking up words in a dictionary!

Thursday Homework

Read: photocopy about Galileo or read it online by clicking here
Answer the questions:
What did Galileo’s parents want him to study? What was Galileo’s true interest?
What did Galileo discover about physics and friction?
What did Galileo build or make to help him verify Copernicus’ ideas of a sun centered system?
What did the Catholic Church make Galileo do? Why?
What is your reaction to this reading? What part did you think was intereting?

+ How are Jackie Robinson and Galileo similar?

Due Tuesday:  Fill in the Prefix and Root photocopy with words you know. If you don't know one, skip it and go to the next one.

Wednesday Homework

Read pages 19-20 Edwin Hubble: A Man with Vision . Take notes on the photocopy I gave you in class.  Answer the questions on page 21.

Panorama pages 14-16 (top to page 16 only)
Write a short paragraph (3-4 sentences): Which reading did you like best, Jackie Robinson- Breaking Barriers, Negro Leagues,  or Physics of Baseball? Why did you like it?

Weekend Homework

Read pages 11-12 "The Physics of Baseball". As you read and find vocabulary words in bold, look at page 10 and try to guess the meaning. When you finish reading, go back and take notes to use for a mini true/false reading quiz on Monday.

Keep adding words to your vocabulary notebook. Reading them once is not enough to help you remember!
